The Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen (formerly Shenzhen Donghu Hospital) was founded in 1985. In October 2010, the hospital was relocated to the new site—Buji Lilang, Longgang District, Shenzhen. It is a large-scale modernization established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government "Strong specialists, comprehensive" municipal tertiary infectious disease hospitals. It is mainly responsible for the prevention and control of infectious diseases and major epidemics in Shenzhen and surrounding Hong Kong, Macao, Zhuhai, Dongguan, and Huizhou areas, as well as comprehensive medical services for 20 million citizens in Shenzhen. The hospital actively responds to the requirements of the Shenzhen Municipal Government’s "East Advancement Strategy". At the same time, it focuses on the construction policy of "One Body, Two Wings, Four Pillars and Eight Supports". The construction of four major medical centers for lung disease, AIDS, and emerging infectious diseases will be the pillars, and eight comprehensive specialties will be built as support to create a medical highland in Shenzhen.   

The hospital covers an area of ​​100,000 square meters, with a building area of ​​88,000 square meters, 784 hospital beds, and more than 800 beds actually opened. It is currently one of the domestic hospitals with advanced design and higher equipment configuration. There are currently 14 single buildings, with a "hospital-in-hospital" layout. The comprehensive department, liver disease, infectious disease, and pulmonary departments have independent inpatient buildings and outpatient registration, charging, and laboratory inspection systems. The hospital currently has 1,369 employees, including 243 senior titles, 13 post-doctoral fellows, 55 doctoral candidates, and 212 master's degree holders. There are 2 experts enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, 2 experts enjoying the special allowance of Shenzhen, 18 provincial and municipal academic leaders. There are 2 doctoral supervisors and 25 master supervisors. It is a joint training unit for doctoral and postgraduate students of the non-directly affiliated hospital of Guangdong Medical University, Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University, and Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the practice base of Nanhua University.
